Find your HAT!

  • Posted on September 5, 2013 at 11:02 am

Part of a woman’s wardrobe is accessories. It could be pieces of jewelry, belts, scarves, and hats.

To confidently strut your hat, one must wear it with the right clothes, perfect weather, and proper occasion. But ultimately, one must wear it knowing the shape of their face.

To help you choose and style below is a compilation of must-read tips to find your perfect hat:

1. Know your face shape.

Find a full length mirror. On the mirror, trace the line of your face using your index finger dipped in soap or powder. When done, you can now compare which of these images resemble the shape of your face.

3. Cheat list.

For a more detailed discussion, here’s a compilation of  tips on what hat to wear and how to wear it.

For Oval Face:

People with oval-shaped face are fortunate. Their options are virtually limitless. Most hat styles will suit this facial structure. Hats should generally be worn straight across the forehead or hairline.

Best Style: Streamline shapes, worn forward, square or round crowns, brims swept up on the side(s) or back; Almost Any Style

Celebrities with this Face Shape:

Eva Mendes, Sofia Vergara, Angelina Jolie, David Beckham

For Long Face:

Long Face is also called the narrow, oblong, elongated or rectangle face. It is considered an elongated oval. Experiment with hats that have full brims such as sun hats, picture hats or floppy hats. Crowns should be deep enough to cover an ample portion of the forehead to even out the length of the face. Wide brims can be worn, especially ones that are turned downward.

Best styles:      Experiment with Wide Brims, Sun Hat, Beret

Medium to wide brims, worn straight or forward. Sharp, straight styles.

These straight brim styles “cut” the length appearance of your face.

Stay Away From: Deep or Tall crowns as they add too much height to the face and head area.

Celebrities with this face shape:

Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Oh, Rosario Dawson, Molly Sims, Liv Tyler, Teri Hatcher, Kate Hudson, Ryan Gosling, Ricky Martin, Russell Crowe, Kiefer Sutherland, Eminem

For Round Face:

Round Face is noted for its full round shape without angles or points. When choosing a hat for this face shape the big hats are best. Asymmetrical shapes and wide brims worn at an angle go best with the facial features. Brims that are the accented feature are great choices. It is best to steer away from hats that are narrower than the face.

Best Styles:     Newsboy, Fedora, Ivy/Flat Cap

Hats worn at a slight tilt or angle.

Asymmetrical brims will lessen the roundness. Wear profile brims in varied sizes.

Stay Away From: Styles which are narrower than the face.

Celebrities with this Face Shape:

Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Winslet, Kte Upton, Kanye West

For Square Face:

Square Face is noted for its broad features: forehead, cheek bones and chin. Hats with wide brims will flatter this face shape. A slight tilt or angle of the hat will balance the broad chin of this face shape. Almost any crown will work with the exception of crowns that taper to a sharp point at the top.

Best Styles:     Bowler, Center Dent Fedora, Fashion Beanie

Large brims with soft lines, upturned brims, round crowns or curved edge square crowns.

Hats worn at slightly tilted angle.

Round and asymmetrical hats provide contrast to sharp jaw lines.

Stay Away From: Crowns that taper at the tip and hats with short brims.

Celebrities with this Face Shape:

Jessica Simpson, Fergie, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Ritchie, Eliza Dushku, Demi Moore, Keith Urban, Brad Pitt

For Heart Shape Face: Asymmetrical designs, Square or round crowns tilted to one side, Profile hats and brims with soft curves.

Heart face is noted with wide cheekbones, wide forehead and a pointy chin. Any hat with a medium-sized brim is perfect for someone with a heart-shaped face. The concern in this case is to balance out a wide forehead. If the brim is too large, the forehead will have an even wider appearance than normal. Other than that, this shape allows for a variety of different styles.

Never choose a hat which has a crown that is narrower than the cheek bones.

Best styles: Cloche, Picture hat, Pillbox, berets, turbans, sailors or boater styles work well.

Stay Away From: Fedora, Trilby and styles with a narrow crown.

Celebrities with this face shape:

Helen Mirren, Dakota Fanning, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Gabriel Union, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Anniston, Michelle Phiffer, Halle Berry, David Beckham, Leonardo Dicapario, Will Smith

For Triangle Face:

Triangle face shape is much like the oval face. They are both easy to style. Both are notable for the wide fore head, cheek bones and pointy chin. Hats should be worn straight across the brow line. Experiment with styles, however avoid styles that have crowns that are narrower than the cheek bones.

Best Styles: Any style hat will flatter this face shape.

Stay Away From: Crowns which are narrower than the cheek bones.

Celebrities with this Face Shape:

Katie Holmes, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Kelly Rowland, Sigourney Weaver, Victoria Beckham

Pretty ALL Day!

  • Posted on July 15, 2013 at 2:17 pm

Women juggle a lot of things all at the same time. Aside from performing excellently at work, we have to maintain our prettified self to be presentable.

Sometimes, as the day goes by, we overlook minute details on how to take care of ourselves. We just skip it and hop on to our next activity, leaving us more stressed and disheveled. To instantly feel fresh and radiant, here are reminders to pretty girls on the go out there:

1. Wear exact fitting clothes.

Tight-fitting clothes are over-rated. Not only does it limit our movements, but it also makes us more self-conscious. Of course on the other hand, we cannot also overdo on loose clothes lest we would look lousy. The technique is find a slacks with just the right percentage of spandex, say 3-5%, or get the proper length of skirt. Crisp polo blouses as well is a classic.

2. Wear pretty shoes.

Wearing pretty shoes boosts confidence. If you like what you see whenever you look down, you instantly feel refreshed and happy. Give yourself a reason to look down and smile 😀

3. Comb and fix your hair.

We know that messy and i-just-got-out-from-bed hairdo are the in things nowadays. But, we cannot afford to look like that when we are meeting clients or talking to our boss and colleagues. It is still best to look polished and neat, and save the messy do for a night out with friends.

Messy hair presents messy head (brain), so better to keep our hairs tucked in and you’ll instantly feel lighter.

4. Wear an earring.

For some, wearing accessories is a no-no. They either get hassled by it, or they have allergies. For others, they actually overdo it, by wearing dangling and heavier earrings. But to get the glow and radiance we want to achieve, wearing a stud with the right size can turn you into a charming lady.

Earring lifts the aura of your face. With the right size, you’ll feel prettified the whole day.

5. Powder your nose.

Our T-zone (forehead and nose) is prone to oiliness. We all heard about the cliche “Oiliness is next to ugliness“, and it is thus a basic that we bring oil control film or a powder to preserve our pretty faces.

6. Arrange your belongings, leave bulky ones.

Now that we’re dressed pretty, wearing the right shoes and earrings, we can showcase ourselves without looking haggard—by not bringing bulky things, as much as possible. Women have this habit of carrying alot of things with them wherever they go. We might want to stick with our purse and smart-phones only so that we can be chic and classy. What’s the use of smart phones if we cannot use it as temp or alternative for our e-docs.

7.  Wear pretty undergarments.

In preparation for our day, we have to wear the proper undergarments to support our body. And, you’ll definitely feel the vibe of wearing a pair of pretty undies. Take it should be paired. ! You’ll feel sexy inside, and it will radiate on the outside. La Senza and Herbendh have a lot of pretty, sezy, and sassy undergarments that you could choose from. Hoard during their sale. You’ll never wear anything not paired after!

Hope this helps! Stay pretty ladies!

5 Major Tiis-Ganda of Women

1. Major Hair Treatment

photo from clickbd.com

Women with no bad-hair days are lucky! Because most women frequent the salon twice a year for a rebond, for some perm. Rebonding takes about 5 hours. But for thick and kinky-haired women, it takes longer. This means, around 8 hours! Imagine the dread they feel everytime they see new hair growths?

Some would think that going to the salon is all-pampering and taking care of yourself. Yes, they are part of it. But for  others, staying at the salon is a form of sacrifice of time, effort, and energy! It is not as brilliant as pictured in magazines, most especially when the iron is an inch away from your face, the blow-dryer is fanning at your nape, and that back-aching-sitting-all-day-stance is all you could do! So, to those who are thinking that it’s one of the posh hobbies, you might wanna reconsider. (–,)

2. Waxing/Threading

Relevant to #1, and as part of proper grooming and hygiene, women have to make sure that they don’t have unsightly hairs! That includes mustache, which is really painful when threaded! Arrghh! To minimize the pain, some resort to waxing. I say minimize, because it is still painful! This item is self-explanatory! Haha. Good thing with waxing though is that it actually removes dry skin. Leaving you with clearer skin. (Sounds like a commercial, eh?)

3. Facial

photo from thetimes.co.uk

Darn pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Particularly the ones near the T-zone. This area actually is more vulnerable to pain than the rest of the face. But of course, eventhough you do not have impurities on your face, this has to be done in order to maintain younger looking skin.

4. Wearing High heels

photo from missiepopular.blogspot.com

Some women are not really comfortable wearing high heels, but to complete “the look”, they have to! Although there are convenient fashion, we have to admit that high heels are more associated as the sophisticated look. To be glamorous is to wear high heels. Most women would like to do this item rather occasionally.

5. Diet!

photo from dapino-colada.nl

Diet is a loosely used term to describe starvation. Beep! But it actually means, nutrition or the composition of your food intake. Usually, when there is an upcoming event, or a soon-to-be (meaning two weeks time) beach bumming experience, women frantically resort to crash diet. Either no rice at all, or two table spoon of rice only! No desserts, no soda, no red meat. Most of the time, this does not work, especially with women who has low metabolism. But, guess what tiis-ganda could do?

These are just some of the “sacrifices” women take in order to prettify ourselves. However, as cliche as it may sound, the way to look good is to feel good. True in any sense. Confidence is the key. But hey, we have to like what we see in the mirror, ayt? So it does help our self-esteem to commit these sacrifices. 😀

Disclaimer: Men have their own ways of tiis-gwapo, it’s just that women’s sacrifices are more obvious and deliberate. :)

The Wonders of Malong

  • Posted on February 28, 2013 at 10:22 am

Women in cultural show, using Malong

Last month, I received a malong as a birthday gift. I am not usually a fan of scarves, shawls, and sarong because I find carrying them a hassle. But since it is purple, I automatically loved it! It may be a no-brainer, but for a shirt-and-short-girl like me, back then, I would not know the uses of these pieces of clothing. Not until I brought it with me in one of my travels.

Just a fast-fact, a malong is a traditional garment usually worn by royal families in Mindanao. It is a tubular dress in different colors. Two weeks after it was given to me, I have grown from liking it to making it a must-have, most especially for every traveler since it is lightweight and easy to pack. I made a short list of its amazing uses:

1. Blanket and Jacket in one

I rode a bus going to Camarines Sur, and man, it was so cold. Usually, these buses are colder than those metro buses that we ride on our way to work. And, despite wearing long sleeves and jeggings, the coldness crept in. The malong saved my night! Because it’s tubular, I felt like I was tucked in my bed!

2. Protective and Fashionable scarf

After alighting that cold bus, I was not prepared to face for the sudden change of temperature; the malong absorbed all the heat, and covered my face from the sun. As an added bonus, I was saved from all the dust and dirt.

3. Bed sheet

This part is my favorite use of malong. Being a suplada / maselan and a budget traveler don’t mix quite well. Every time I travel, I see to it that the accommodations that I find are cheap; however, despite the room ads that they are clean, it may or may not be true. Thus, the malong saved me again from unnecessary bites from bed bugs or not-so-clean mattresses.

4. Lona or Beach spread

Of course, my travel would not be complete without the beach! And the malong is my instant lona! It protected me from that sticky sand, which of course is imminent, but the malong avoided that sand from damping my hair.

5. Carry-all bag

Remember when we were all young, o well, I don’t know about you, hehe, there was this cartooned turtle who used to travel carrying all its stuff in a tie-knotted piece of clothing? I was able to carry all my belongings in the same way with my malong J

6. Towel

Of course, it may sound unsanitary but if in case you have forgotten to bring your towel, or would not risk using the towel provided for by your budget inn, the malong comes in handy.

There! Of course, the list goes on, but I can’t wait to put my hands on another malong. I only have one as of now. If not for that great friend who gave it to me, I would not know how much loveable and useful the malongs are! I’m planning of getting a red one. How about you, convinced yet? 😀
